Who Are We?
Habitat for Humanity of Deep East Texas partners with people in our community to help them build a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families.
What do we do?
Since being founded in 1995, Habitat for Humanity of Angelina County has built homes for over 20 low income families. We construct new homes for families in need. Through our program, families receive a home that is safe and affordable, with no closing costs, interest, or down payment, and pay off the loan over a 20 year period through affordable monthly payments.
Our Construction and Site Selection Committee helps ensure that we have the land necessary to build safe and affordable homes for families in need. We partner with many businesses, organizations, and individuals in our community who donate funds, time, and labor which help us continue to build affordable homes. We are happy to serve our community and are committed to serving until poverty housing is eliminated in Deep East Texas.
Our Families
What are the circumstances that can lead to a family’s need for decent, affordable housing?
There’s no one answer, as potential Habitat homeowners find themselves faced with a variety of situations: rent increases, overcrowded living conditions, damaged structures, unsafe neighborhoods, lack of access to land or affordable financing, and so much more.
To begin their journey to safe, stable shelter, future Habitat homeowners apply and are selected based on our homeowner qualifications. From helping build their own home alongside volunteers to taking financial education classes, homeowners take a hands-on role in the homeownership process.
Our Homes
When families partner with Habitat, they start down a new path. Our surveys show that after purchasing their home, Habitat homeowners faced far fewer barriers to a more stable life: They report better physical health, improved grades for children, increased savings and more.
